Eddy and Andy Arrive!!
On Friday, Oct 16, Eddy and Andy arrived at our farm. Roy has been planning for having a team of horses for nearly fifteen years, so it's a significant event for us. In fact, much of Roy's farming impulse has had to do with using these massive draft animals. So far our weekend of getting familiar with Eddy and Andy has gone pretty smooth, with the exception of brief moment when Roy discovered that giving Mac, our border collie, a forcful command to "Get out", is not such a good idea when driving a team of horses. They interpreted his command as "Get up" and started to run unexpectedly. We all have a lot to learn, including Mac, who seems to think of them as very large brown cows whom he is determined to control. It is truly breath-taking to watch these young geldings go galloping around the pasture then have them duck their heads to have their halters put on to be led calmly back to the barn. This May, when our open-farm day rolls around, hopefully many of you will get to meet Eddy and Andy and perhaps have horse-drawn wagon tour of the farm.
